Understanding the Prophecy

Revelation reveals not one reign, but two—and understanding the difference is critical to correctly interpreting the end-time timeline.

The first reign is a thousand-year reign with Christ, which takes place before the earth is restored. During this time, the redeemed are not ruling on earth, but are instead with Christ in the heavenly realm. Scripture shows them seated on thrones, participating in judgment, and reviewing the decisions of God.

This period is often misunderstood. Rather than being a time of earthly peace, it is a time of judicial review, where God’s people examine the full record of human and angelic rebellion. This confirms the justice of God’s decisions and answers every question about sin, suffering, and judgment.

The second reign is entirely different. After the thousand years are complete, the New Jerusalem descends, the earth is made new, and God’s people begin their eternal reign on earth. This is the fulfillment of all promises—the restoration of the kingdom.

The distinction matters. Confusing these two reigns leads to major errors in understanding prophecy. Revelation clearly separates them:

  • A temporary reign (1,000 years)
  • A permanent reign (forever and ever)

Only by keeping this structure intact can the full picture of God’s plan be seen.
