Does Isaiah 65:20 really describe life during the millennium?

Isaiah 65:20 is often used to support the idea that people will live and die on earth during the millennium—some even using it to suggest a second chance for salvation after the Second Coming. But when this verse is examined in context, a very different picture emerges.

Isaiah is not describing conditions during the millennium. He is describing the new heavens and the new earth, using a consistent pattern of comparison and contrast between the present world and the eternal one.

Throughout Isaiah 65, blessings of the future are contrasted with the curse of the present:
