Understanding God: Is He a Trinity?

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

In this three-part teaching series, Tom Stapleton examines one of the most foundational and controversial questions in Christianity: Who is God? Is the Godhead a Trinity of three co-equal persons, or does Scripture reveal a different relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit? Using both Old and New Testament passages, this study carefully explores how the Bible describes the Father and Yeshua, the role of the Holy Spirit, and the unfolding revelation of God throughout Scripture.

The series emphasizes that eternal life is connected to truly knowing God and His Son, as described in John 17:3. Through extensive Bible study, the teaching argues that Yeshua is the literal divine Son of God, fully sharing in the Godhead with the Father, while the Holy Spirit is presented as the omnipresent spiritual presence of the Father and the Son rather than a separate third being. The study traces this understanding through passages in Genesis, Isaiah, John, Revelation, Hebrews, and many others, comparing how the Old Testament and New Testament together reveal God’s plan of redemption.

Special attention is given to the identity of Yeshua as the “Word of God,” the Creator, Emmanuel (“God with us”), the King of Kings, and the One who fulfilled hundreds of Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah. The series also examines difficult passages often used in Trinitarian debates, including Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 9:6, John 1, John 14–17, Revelation 1, and Revelation 19. Along the way, the teaching challenges viewers to test inherited doctrines against Scripture itself rather than relying solely on church tradition or theological systems.

Beyond theology alone, this series ultimately focuses on the character of God and His plan of salvation. The study presents Yeshua’s life, death, resurrection, priesthood, and Second Coming as the central revelation of the Father’s love for humanity. It calls believers to develop a personal relationship with God through His Word, to seek truth even when it challenges long-held assumptions, and to better understand the role of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit in the final events of Bible prophecy.
